MA in Linguistics
The Department of English Language and Literature offers a two-year Master’s program in Linguistics, designed to meet the academic needs of graduate students in the region. The program’s curriculum includes courses such as Research Methods in Linguistics, Syntax, Psycholinguistics, English for Specific Purposes (ESP), Semantics, Phonology, Advanced Studies in Micro-linguistics, Corpus Linguistics, Language Testing and Assessment, Pragmatics and Discourse Analysis, Didactics, Sociolinguistics, Computational Linguistics, and the Teaching of English, alongside a research project component in the second semester.
The importance of the Master’s program for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia lies in the following:
1- Providing and training qualified personnel to contribute to the Kingdom’s advancement, and enabling outstanding bachelor’s degree holders to pursue graduate studies locally—building upon the Department of English Language and Literature’s track record of graduating students in this field.
2- Enabling the College of Science and Humanities, with its various specializations, to serve diverse professional sectors within society.
3- Preparing researchers in fields essential to Saudi society—spanning applied sciences, technology, and other disciplines that rely on the English language and its societal applications.
4- Assisting many other applied faculties—such as the Faculties of Education and Computer Science & Engineering—in conducting joint research and training courses.
Mission:
To prepare qualified postgraduates in linguistics through in-depth theoretical and empirical training to conduct original research, contribute to language-related jobs, and address community needs with evidence-based linguistic expertise.
Goals:
1. To deliver high-quality theoretical and empirical training in linguistics.
2. To promote a research culture that enables postgraduates to produce original research in linguistics and applied linguistics.
3. To prepare graduates with the competencies required for language-related professional fields.
4. To equip students with ethical and professional skills to serve community needs in language-related issues.
5. To provide postgraduates with the cognitive and research skills required to pursue PhD studies in linguistics or other related fields.

Knowledge and Understanding:
K1: Demonstrate advanced theoretical and empirical methods relevant to linguistics and applied linguistics.

S1: Apply advanced theoretical and methodological approaches to research in linguistics and applied linguistics.
S2: Solve research problems in linguistics and applied linguistics creatively using appropriate advanced models, frameworks, and technologies.
S3: Analyze diverse data sets using appropriate quantitative and qualitative research methods in linguistics and applied linguistics.

الهيكل التنظيمي لبرنامج الماجستير
شروط القبول ببرنامج الماجستير
- أن يكون المرشح حاصلاً على درجة البكالوريوس أو ما يعادلها من أي جامعة معترف بها من قبل وزارة التعليم سواء من داخل المملكة أو من خارجها.
- أن يكون المرشح حاصلاً على تقدير تراكمي (٣,٢٥) من (٥) في مرحلة البكالوريوس كحد أدني للقبول بالبرنامج.
- أن يكون المرشح سعودي الجنسية أو غير سعودي حاصل على بعثة رسمية من خلال أحد برامج التبادل الثقافي.
- أن لا يكون المرشح قد سبق فصله من أي جامعة لأسباب تأديبية أو أسباب أكاديمية.
- أن يكون المرشح حاصلاً على إجمالي 5 درجات في اختبار الايلتس IELTS الأكاديمي أو ما يعادلها.
- أن يجتاز المرشح المقابلة الشخصية التي يعقدها قسم اللغة الإنجليزية وآدابها.
- أن يكون المرشح حاصلاً على موافقة جهة العمل إذا كان يعمل سواء بالقطاع الحكومي أو بالقطاع الخاص.
وصف برنامج ماجستير اللغويات
حرصاً من إدارة الجامعة والكلية والقسم على مواكبة التطور العالمي في برامج الدراسات العليا، وتماشياً مع رؤية المملكة باستكمال منظومة تعليمية مرتبطة باحتياجات سوق العمل، تم استحداث برنامج الماجستير في اللغويات بقسم اللغة الإنجليزية وآدابها بالخرج بهدف إكساب الطلاب والطالبات بمجموعة من المهارات اللغوية التي تستند على فهم عميق للغة بمستوياتها المختلفة كالنحو والصرف، وعلم الأصوات، وعلم الدلالة، والتداولية، وعلم اللغة الاجتماعي، وعلم اللغة النفسي، وتحليل الخطاب، وغيرها. يتضمن البرنامج دراسات نظرية وعملية تُساعد الطلاب على تطوير مهارات البحث العلمي والتحليل اللغوي لمختلف أنواع النصوص والبيانات مما يُمكنهم من مواصلة الدراسات العليا في مرحلة الدكتوراه. كما يسعى البرنامج من خلال المشاريع البحثية والنقاشات الأكاديمية إلى إعداد خريجين قادرين على خدمة مجتمعهم والمنافسة في سوق العمل في وظائف في مجالات مختلفة مثل التعليم، والصحافة، وصناعة الإعلانات، والإدارة، والتسويق، والأعمال، وغيرها
