Electrical engineering is no longer one discipline among many — it has become the infrastructure on which contemporary life rests. The power that lights our homes and runs our offices and factories, the electronic devices and control systems embedded in vehicles, aircraft, and production lines, and the communication networks that carry data across the world are all direct products of this field and its far-reaching applications.
Accordingly, the Department of Electrical Engineering aims to graduate engineers who are academically and professionally qualified across the discipline's various tracks and equipped to contribute meaningfully to the rapid development the Kingdom is witnessing. The department prepares:
Power engineers: to work in generation plants, substations, high-voltage networks, and transformers.
Electrical machines engineers: to design generators and motors of all types and ratings, analyze and enhance their performance, and operate and control them through power electronics systems.
Communications engineers: to operate, develop, and maintain wired and wireless communication systems, and to process digital signals and images.
Electronics engineers: to design and maintain electronic circuits and systems used in communications, control, and related applications, in both civil and military settings.
Control systems engineers: to design and manage automatic control systems for industrial processes and a wide range of applied fields.
A set of courses in biomedical engineering has also been incorporated into the study plan, keeping pace with rapid industrial and technological advances in that domain.
On this basis, the establishment of the Department of Electrical Engineering takes on particular significance. The department is committed to offering a distinguished academic program that responds to global scientific and technological change on the one hand, and to the needs of the local community and labor market on the other.
